About Terence Gillespie
Terence Gillespie is a sinister man with a mental disorder. In other words, he is left-handed and thinks with his whole brain. These conditions used to get hands whacked by nuns in Catholic school and caused extreme indecisiveness until the age of 30. When decisions were finally made they were, indeed, optimal except for taking too much time to make. Happily, Terence now embraces both attributes and has harnessed his creative and whole-brained approach to life to, finally, create his own version of an Optimal Life.
Coming up with strategies, metaphors, checklists, procedures, summaries, cross-discipline comparisons, equations, diagrams, alternative courses of action and, God forbid, even shortcuts to steer towards the optimal aspects of any part of life is a personal mission and obsession. It is also his much needed mental therapy.
More traditionally speaking Terence Has a BA in Computer Science with a minor in music. He has worked on cruise ships and rock bands as a professional musician. His first job after college was as an IBM programmer for 4 years in New York before moving to Los Angeles to work for GE, UCLA, Cedar Sinai and EMC. He started and ran a successful consulting business from 2000-2006. He is also an instrument rated pilot, songwriter, flamenco guitarist, writer, singer and speaker.
Philosophy
Reaching optimal is an inside job that must start in the mind. By the time you have a clear vision of your actual optimal life you will most likely skate right past the fixed-pie notion of happiness. That's where everyone competes for the same resources and, therefore, only a few elites can ever really be happy. People living their optimal life do happy things and most often create more abundance than they require. Humanity is the beneficiary of the excess and the economic use of the limited resources on earth is greatly enhanced by their optimal use. Unlike the conventional wisdom about dirt, gold, oxygen, trees, silver, copper, etc., it turns out that humans are the ultimate natural resource if they can find it within themselves to be so.
As Luck would have it, the more people who realize their own optimal lives the better it is for everyone on the planet. What's the alternative? More and more people being rude in the grocery store and mad at their own kids? Of course not. We all must make compromises now and then, but, making big and permanent compromises on important aspects of your life comes at a high personal cost and is best minimized or eliminated. Temporary compromises can be made within an otherwise optimal framework so that the compromise itself becomes more of an intelligent working flexibility. Ideally, when things don't go as planned it points the way towards either growth or uncertainty. Handling either well usually leads to opportunity.
Click around in this web site for a while to see if anything you find makes your life better. Even small things can have a large effect And, even an optimal life needs to be periodically re-examined to stay on track.
