Where Does Money Come From?

Money comes from your mind. But, it doesn’t stop there.

The content of your mind comes from your will. Your will is fed by what’s in your heart. And what’s in your heart comes from what you hold most dear. Therefore, it’s possible to trace money all the way back to what you hold most dear.

In a future articles I will address the integration of the heart, will and mind. In this article, I want to explain the powerful and invisible connection between your mind and its ability to create money.

If you think about ways to meet the needs and desires of others you’re thinking about creating value. If you act on those thoughts to bring that value into existence you will have actually created value. Anything man values can be exchanged for money. How much money depends on the appraisal of your fellow man. In their appraisal they will judge your value in relation to all other values they could buy.

Work is required to bring the fruit of your thoughts into existence where they can provide value to others. But, work is preceded by thought.

Its tempting to think that money comes from work since you’re likely to have gotten paid just after having worked. Work is the last part of the chain before getting paid. It’s not where the chain starts and it’s not what started the chain.

Most people start making money by fulfilling the most obvious needs and desires of those around them. You may wash windows, mow lawns, deliver newspapers, perform chores around the house for an allowance, etc. Fulfilling the obvious needs and desires of others was your first idea of how to make money. As you thought about other ways to make money you may have come up with more ideas. The greater number of ideas the greater choice you have in ways to make money. The more choices you have the greater the chance you’ll discover something for which you have a talent for. The more talent you bring to bear the better the quality of your ideas. The better the quality of your ideas the more value you can create.

The use of your talents in the service of others is an excellent purpose, in and of itself. It is likely the best and highest purpose for your life. If there’s any question whether you’ve discovered your best and highest purpose its that most people have many different talents. Which talent is your strongest or can provide the most value for others may not be obvious. Even if you’ve found your strongest talent you probably have other talents that either support your strongest talent or can be used to create different types of value.

Talents are one form of Strengths. There are many other Strengths you can draw from. As described in the Your Optimal Equation one must factor in other aspects of life that can tax your Strengths. Optimizing your ability to make money is equivalent to optimizing your life in that anything that taxes the use of your strengths will also tax their optimal use. When your thoughts about how to create value for others are most closely matched with your own Strengths, Weaknesses, Values, Goals and Purpose then you have the greatest potential to create the most value for others. It may not occur to you that in this congruent state you are the most able to create value and, therefore, money.

Thinking about what you can do to use all of your Strengths to create value for others is the first and best step in maximizing the amount of money you can make. Thinking next about integrating the other major factors of your life with your Strengths is the next. It would be difficult to overemphasize the importance of mastering the challenges of these first two steps. Like a ship that sets its course early and correctly the amount of time and effort saved is enormous.

I will be writing much more on the subject of optimizing your life and that will include making money. The important point of this article, however, is that money comes from your mind. It comes from your mind even though it may seem like it came from work, suffering, sacrifice, perseverance and every other quality that may or may not be necessary to create value for others.

The means of exchange you use for the value you create may not be money. But, it is eligible for it. And the Value came from work, the work from talent, the talent from an idea and the idea from your mind.
