How thrilling to wake up, today, and see that my article, 76 Reasons to Have a Gun was the 3rd most popular article on LewRockwell.com, last week!
Lew publishes 60 articles per week and the traffic numbers support his claim of being “The best read libertarian website in the world“. So far, around 800 readers hit the small blog button at the bottom of the article to read more from the same author. Given that the article is 3700 words I’m thrilled with the number who were still ready for more.
I received about 150 emails (And 20 new follows on Twitter) from some very interesting folks. I learned a lot from their replies and thought about publishing some of them in this article. However, I don’t want to violate their privacy or have copyright issues. Next time I get lots of traffic I’ll try to capture some of the best comments and make them available.
One great thing about getting on Lew’s weekly top 10 is that more people may read and benefit from the article. I also hope that leads to a trickle of readers onto YourOptimal who might enjoy articles about other aspects of Optimal.
My Favorite Reader
My favorite reader was my wife, Isabel. She’s been a little skeptical of my gun related efforts, lately. I think she’s more at ease after reading my holistic approach to avoiding violence in every aspect of our lives. As I say in the article I’ve made a personal decision to add gun skills on top of the cornerstones for optimal living.
“Preferred areas of focus for optimal living are: Values, Goals, Strength, Talent, Education, God, Health, Family, Prayer, Money, Intuition, Liberty, Barter, etc. Any plan that emphasizes a gun instead of these is doomed from the start.“
And yet, leaving a gun out of your toolkit has its own risk. After much research and introspection my conclusion is that:
“The stabilizing peace that follows in the wake of private gun ownership enables my family to continue focusing almost completely on the ideals of a purposeful life.”
I hope my article will help people decide on whether a gun has a place in their Optimal Toolkit.
